Chocolates for Chocolate lovers

If there is a food universally liked by all (or at least most), it would have to be chocolates.

Chocolates are great treats for any occasion and are very versatile. They come in a plethora of shapes, sizes, packaging, and with different fillings and flavors. Chocolates are the default gift for Valentine’s Day, but they can be given for any holiday, especially to a loved with a weakness for sweets. Chocolate even has health benefits, so it is not all just empty calories and sugar. Chocolates can be bought at a store, or can even be made at home. Regardless of how it’s presented, chocolate will be a main stay on many food palettes.

It is no secret that one can purchase chocolates from a variety of retailers. Chocolates are sold mass produced by big name corporations, or are made one by one by hand at a small local business. The holiday on which chocolates are most widely bought is Valentine’s Day. On this day, people flock to stores by the thousands to buy a box of chocolates for someone special. These chocolates sometimes come in large, elaborately wrapped heart shaped boxes. Then there are the smaller, more inexpensive boxes that can be found at any drugstore or ninety-nine cents store. With these store bought chocolates, the fillings are unpredictable, as well as the quality. No doubt, most people have gotten a box of bad tasting chocolates that they begrudgingly forced themselves to eat in front of the person the chocolates were received from. A gift of chocolates can be made much more personal by making them at home. Baking chocolate is available at most grocery stores. The chocolate can be melted down, and then placed in molds. Special fillings can be added. Most importantly of all, the recipient of the gift of chocolates will much appreciate the effort.

There is a variety of chocolate types. The different types of chocolates include unsweetened chocolate, bittersweet chocolate, milk chocolate, dark chocolate, and white chocolate. The different types of chocolates suit the tastes of any palette. Unsweetened chocolate is used for baking. Milk chocolate is chocolate liquor (which all chocolate is made from) with milk and/or cream added. White chocolate is in fact not chocolate at all, but a mix of cocoa butter, milk, and sugar. Dark chocolate is considered to be a health food. It contains antioxidants and contributes to lower blood pressure.

Chocolates can be enjoyed in a variety of ways. They are given as gifts on holidays other than Valentine’s Day. For example, on Easter, chocolate bunnies and chocolate eggs line the shelves of food stores. Christmas chocolates are found in the shape of Santa Clause and Christmas stockings. Not all chocolates are the cheap, mass produced chocolates one is accustomed to seeing in stores. There are pricy gourmet chocolates made by chocolate makers who make the chocolate from scratch. These gourmet chocolates are great for uniquely special occasions. No matter the event, occasion, or holiday, chocolates are sure to have a purpose.
